Extreme Car Desks
Extreme Car Desk
The Pro Desks Extreme laptop desk works in cars where sometimes there is a full bench seat, which does not allow for the seat rail base to be used, or simply because of economic reasons, it might be that the car is only in service for a short while etc. Now one thing that we need to make clear is that the Extreme and the Enforcer II are the exact same laptop desk, except for the base. The base on the Extreme is a flat 5×5 base plate that uses self tapping screws and goes directly to the floor of the car. It does not fasten to the seat rails. ( if you want to fasten to the seat rails see the Enforcer II).
Now, in our experience, in many cases, cars especially late model units have the seat rail locations, and we tend to sell more of the seat rail bases, which is the Enforcer II, however, we still do ship out a fair number of Extreme desks for cars, especially full bench, or company cars, older units, and larger style cars, this sort of thing.
The flat base plate allows you to put the computer desk directly between the seats on the console of the car, or in front of the passenger seat, close to the console area, basically you can mount an Extreme anywhere you have a flat surface, this might be in the back even if you have a crew cab. I know of a few insurance appraisers that have the desk bolted in the back, they get onsite, do all the computing from there, tons of room that way.
The self tapping screws are not little baby screws either, they are serious to hold this, not to let go, this is very stable. One of our most stable desks.
Now, once you have the base installed, there is a short lower pedestal shaft/pipe that fastens onto the base, this is what the upper shaft slides into. This lower shaft for the most part can remain in the car and still allows you to take the upper pedestal, with desktop attached, right out of the pickup if you like. The beauty of the Extreme is that it fits any vehicle. So no matter what you trade your car off on, it will fit. And it can be upgraded to an Enforcer II, simply by adding the seat rail base at anytime. This is very flexible.
The articulating arm and upper pedestal are what allows for arm rotation of the top, and height adjustment. You’ll simply loosen the knob on the top of the upper pedestal to release the spreader section so that the desk would rotate, and or lift up and down. There is a silver lock collar that would attach using a set screw to the upper pedestal, this lock collar allows you to “Set The Height” so that you can loosen the knob, rotate the shaft, without it going down all the time. Once you find a comfortable working height, normally you don’t adjust the height, thus the reason of the silver lock collar.
Now, the articulating arm can pivot without the knob loose, so that the desk can just “Elbow Away” from you, no need to actually adjust that big knob on the upper pedestal very often, if most of your work is from the drivers side of the car, or most from the passenger side. We find that once you find the desired area of use, then you can more or less tighten that big knob, and simply use the elbow action of the articulating arm to move the desk away from you.
The clevis that fastens the desk top to the articulating arm is a steel clevis for strength, and it allows for full 360 degree rotation of the top. Tilt mechanism of the clevis allows you to angle the desk top to fit your preference, and with the elbow action of the articulating arm, combined with the rotation, you can get this just right. It’s a really nice desk to work off.
The top itself is self expanding, spring loaded, so you simply pull it open to slide your computer in and out each day. Nothing to it really, a couple seconds it’s in our out. You will set the side clips for the depth of your laptop on the first use, slide on the rubber caps for the clips, that way no scratches, and it allows for some tightness, and also remember they are in side ways slotted holes as well as up and down, so you can leave ports open if you like. No need to have all four at the corners if you require a usb port or such open. Just slide it a ways, it will still hold fast, no worries.
Now, the clips are built strong and thin, so you can close the lids on pretty much any computer, we have only encountered one or two where they have a lip of some sort that goes into a groove where the screen will not close, but pretty much every computer will allow for the screen to close. This saves wear and tear on the hinges, and takes it down out of eyesight as well.
The transport mode of course is for when moving and you want that computer down, and out of the way of the air bag zones while moving. It folds itself over the post, you lower it, close the screen, tighten everything and haul down the road.
This laptop computer desk as a unit will fit up to 17″ Widescreen and down to a 10.5″ wide computer. So pretty much everything that is in use in a vehicle today. It has the tallest pedestal at 28″ of height, and goes way down of course as well, and has the most reach of any computer desk for vehicles made at 18″ of reach to center of desktop. This is one of the nicest to work off in the drivers seat of any model currently sold by anyone, however as you can see from this photo, it makes a perfect desk for working in the passenger side as well. A person can easily use the seat while the desk is installed, and you swing the desk around right in front of you, and swing it away to travel. Carrying a passenger is no problem.
The Pro Desks Extreme is by far the strongest laptop desk in the Industry. Make no mistake, the size of the pipe, the strength of the arm, the clevis, this is a serious piece of mobile computing equipment. We have had a dozen of these running in the big Ore Trucks in the Sudbury Mine for years now, talk about a torture test, that is pretty much the biggest cars in the world of course, pounding in and out of the mine pit loaded with ore. So, cruising around in a car, well that’s like a picnic for this desk.
Rocky Mountain Cummins has a whole bunch of these mounts running in the service trucks, F 550 and larger, they pound over some very seriously bad road, construction sites, pipeline, oilfield, you name it, it’s bad road, and this is the desk that handles that abuse. We have tons of pipeline companies, oilfield, electrical, plumbing, moving companies etc. all using this notebook desk, every industry imaginable has this desk in it. You’ll be very pleased with this.
The final feature, and quite easily the most important. This is the built in shock system. Now, no other manufacturer has went to such lengths to prevent the vibration that comes up from the vehicle/road to the computer hard drive. This particular desk has a built in shock isolation vibration removal system. Between the articulation joints of the arm is a big fat rubber isolation washer, with ball bearing washers so that each joint removes vibration. There is also one right under the clevis.
Finally the desk top itself has a rubber isolation pad as well to diffuse any final vibration. We have found through testing that areas of use that were experiencing hard drive failure from vibration in six months, went to basically when ever they wanted to replace that computer, years of use. Take a look at the competitor products, steel to steel does not diffuse anything. And you and I both know, set a glass on your seat rail while driving, you know it will crack soon, you’ll feel the vibration coming up. This desk diffuses that vibration.
We offer a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee – Which means, Install this desk – drive it around and use it for a month – test it out. If it’s not everything you thought it was, send it back, no questions asked. It does not matter to use why you sent it back, doesn’t matter if you spouse doesn’t like the color even, send it back. It only comes in Black by the way, so tell him or her first.
After the 30 days, we offer a full 3 years on parts, if a part fails, call me, tell me which part we’ll send you a new one, no questions asked. *Note* I think in all the years we have only sent out 5 parts, and 3 were to Sudbury, 1 to an off-road maniac, and 1 regular Joe. Go figure!
This is a very solid desk, it works well in cars, and you can also see the Navigator, another great desk for the car market.
